Join artists Franck Gohier and Therese Ritchie for a conversation about the Territory’s subversive printmaking culture. As the founders of Red Hand Prints and Green Ant Research Arts and Publishing they have stood at the vanguard of printmaking since the 1990s. Discover how their witty, sardonic works fearlessly continue to lampoon Territory life, politics and culture.

In the age of AI and social media, why do we continue to commission human writers and invest money and scarce resources into printing magazines? What are the special challenges of writing in the ‘small town’, and who is ‘reading the regions’? And, importantly, how can we get a laugh out of it all?

Print, Eat, Sing, Hang Out
Join us for Hacking Kracking, a collaborative printmaking experience where experimentation and exchange come together through printmaking. Developed by Krack! Studio and facilitated by artists from Darwin and Yogyakarta.
Artists are invited to “hack” each other’s visual languages and open new forms of experimentation through shared processes, dialogue and negotiated decision-making. Local communities are then invited to nongkrong (hang out), engaging in a mutual exchange of ideas and knowledge while celebrating the art of printmaking.
Alongside printmaking, enjoy karaoke and food for sale by our Indonesian community aunties, expect homecooked treats and special recipes.
Special performance by Tutup Mulut from 6-7pm.

Tiwi artist Buffy Warlpinni shares the story of Tiwi Design and the rich history of printmaking on the Tiwi Islands. Established at Nguiu on Bathurst Island in 1969, Tiwi Design began as a workshop for printing on paper and fabric and has since become one of Australia’s longest-running Aboriginal art centres.

Joy Bulkanhawuy Dhamarrandji shares the story behind her book Gurraŋay wo nininyŋu matha Djambarrpuyŋuand her work to keep Djambarrpuyŋu language strong for future generations.
Bulkanhawuy will speak about the making of the book and the importance of keeping language alive, used and passed on through generations.
